Feeling unsupported by your partner after telling him you’re pregnant can leave you with a very different set of worries than you had before the conversation. Now you may be thinking about money, appointments, housing, or whether you could raise a child without his involvement.
Instead of trying to predict what your partner will eventually do, take a closer look at his concerns and explore what support may be available to help alleviate them. Pregnancy Resources Plus can connect you to resources that will provide the confidence you’re looking for.

Write Down What You’re Worried About
If your partner says he won’t be involved, “doing this without him” can feel like one enormous problem. Break it into smaller questions.
If you’re worried about money, which expenses concern you most? If you live together, would your housing change if the relationship ended? Would you need childcare to continue working or attending school? Who could drive you to appointments if transportation is an issue?
You may discover that some concerns have solutions while others require more planning.
Find Out Who Else Is Reliable
Think beyond the person you expected to help.
Your parents may be willing to provide childcare one afternoon a week. A sibling might have baby items they no longer need. A friend may be able to drive you to appointments. Community programs may address needs such as food, housing, healthcare, or material assistance.
You don’t necessarily need one person to replace everything you hoped your partner would provide. Several sources of help may address different needs.
Don’t Base a Pregnancy Decision on a Promise or Threat
Your partner may say he’ll leave if you continue the pregnancy. He might also promise that everything will work out if you choose the option he prefers.
Neither tells you what your circumstances will actually look like months from now.
If you’re deciding among parenting, adoption, and abortion, research each one separately from what your partner wants. Look at what each would involve, which concerns it raises for you, and what information you still need.
If his behavior becomes threatening, controlling, or physically unsafe, seek outside help. Call 911 if you’re in immediate danger. The National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233 is also available 24/7 to help you map out next steps and find support.
Nothing you do or say ever justifies abuse. You deserve safety and respect, and no one, including your partner, has the right to make a pregnancy decision for you.
Look at the Situation You Have Now
You may still hope your partner becomes more involved, and he may. However, you can also begin gathering information based on the circumstances before you today.
That could mean finding out what financial resources exist, asking family members what they could realistically help with, or learning more about each pregnancy option before deciding.
Contact Pregnancy Resources Plus to schedule an appointment. We can answer questions about your pregnancy and help you identify information and resources that apply to your situation. Whether you’re looking for parenting education, referrals, or simply a listening ear, we can help.
Pregnancy Resources Plus does not provide or refer for abortions.
