Considering Adoption?
Adoption is one of the paths available during an unintended pregnancy. For some women, it provides a way to move forward while creating stability for their child.
Choosing adoption does not mean losing control. It means understanding your options and deciding on the level of involvement that feels right to you.
At Pregnancy Resources Plus, we offer private appointments where you can meet with an advocate and learn more about how adoption works at no cost to you. Although we do not provide adoption services, we can help guide you on this journey.
How Adoption Works Today
Adoption has changed over time. Today, many women can shape their adoption plan.
Depending on the arrangement, you may be able to:
- Select the adoptive family
- Decide how much contact you’d like after placement
- Set boundaries that feel comfortable
- Receive updates about your child
Adoption plans take into account your preferences.
Different Types of Adoption
There are generally three types of adoption arrangements:
Open Adoption
You may choose the adoptive family and maintain some level of ongoing contact, such as photos, messages, or visits.
Semi-Open Adoption
Communication may take place through an agency or attorney, offering updates while maintaining privacy.
Closed Adoption
No identifying information is shared, and there is no ongoing contact after placement.
Each option comes with different levels of involvement. A licensed adoption professional can explain these in more detail so you can make an informed choice.
Practical Considerations
In many cases, adoption-related legal expenses are covered. Pregnancy-related medical costs may also be covered if insurance does not already provide for them.
Adoption agencies often provide additional guidance and support during pregnancy and after placement.
A Confidential Conversation
Adoption is personal. You may still be gathering information or simply want to understand what it could look like.
Pregnancy Resources Plus provides a welcoming place to ask questions and receive information from an advocate in a confidential setting.
